A fascinating programme of secular music reflecting on times and seasons, and the emotions which run through life. The passing of time has always been an inspiration for composers and this contemporary programme will show a full range of styles from the serious and emotionally charged through to the joyously folkloric. These include American composers Eric Whitacre (Sleep) and Morton Lauridsen’s sumptuous Nocturnes (which include ‘Sure on this shining night’); the Canadian Sarah Quartel; the British composers Jonathan Dove’s The Passing of the Year and David Bednall’s Three Songs of Love, Becky McGlade’s To a Skylark and Cecilia McDowall’s A Fancy of Folksongs.
