The Orlando Consort

Machaut / O'Regan
St George's, Bristol
Saturday 3rd February 2007

We were delighted to be invited to join with The Orlando Consort in a unique collaboration performing Guillaume de Machaut's Messe des Nostre Dame, composed almost 700 years ago, and a newly commissioned work by Tarik O'Regan Scattered Rhymes which draws on fragments of the Machaut Mass for its inspiration.

The Mass alternated complex and breathtaking virtuosic polyphony from the Orlando Consort with evocative plainchant from the Choir. Scattered Rhymes was a perfect companion piece with sublime interplay between the four voices of the Consort rising to heart-stopping dramatic intensity with the combined forces. It was thrilling to work with such talented singers and we have to agree with The Sunday Times that “The Orlando Consort's performances are staggeringly beautiful”

Note of thanks from the Orlando Consort
