Bristol Bach Choir

Musical Director Peter Leech

“It was a splendid performance, so full of life. The choir were on very good form and exuded a wonderful sense of excitement. The fast passages were beautifully sung and the orchestra were first-rate as were the soloists."  (Professor Raymond Warren, Professor of Music at Bristol University 1972-94)

"I noted a pronounced stillness among the departing company, the sort that occurs when a group of people have experienced a truly transformational occurrence together which then compels the individual to reflect on that experience."    (Jaqui Strevens, Wells Journal)

2008/09 Season

Next season will be one of change for the choir. After ten years in charge, Peter Leech is standing down as our music director in December 2008. We are hopeful of making an exciting appointment which will consolidate the tremendous strides the choir has made under Peter’s leadership as well as seeking fresh challenges under new direction.
Peter’s valedictory concerts will be our annual and ever-popular Christmas concerts at St George’s. Prior to that, our concert in November will mark the forthcoming 350th anniversary of one of England’s greatest composers, Henry Purcell. Join us for a festive musical banquet, celebrating Purcell’s genius.
Another anniversary – 2009 will be 250 years since the death of Handel – is the excuse, if we ever needed one, for the choice of the Messiah as the first work to be performed under the choir’s new conductor. The choir has a reputation for high quality performances of the Baroque repertoire, and you will not be disappointed by this performance of a deservedly popular work.
Our final concert of the season will be the first to be planned by our new conductor and we are leaving the choice of programme to her/him! A musical surprise for us all, but you can be confident that whatever the music, the concert will inspire your mind and seduce your senses!
Our season finishes with a tour to Dresden where we hope to re-create some of the excitement of our concert last season when we celebrated music from the wealthy and powerful court of Dresden in the 18th century.

We warmly invite you to join us in our new season of music making. As always we welcome new Patrons and a telephone call (01453 811723) or e-mail to our Patron’s Secretary will advise you of the benefits of becoming one of our valued members.
