40 Years of Singing

The Bristol Bach Choir is proud of its contribution to music making in Bristol during the last 40 years. Over time, it has carved out a distinctive style under four distinguished conductors. Its heritage of high quality choral singing is unparalleled in the city.

The Choir looks forward to the next 40 years with enthusiasm and energy. Its passion and commitment is undiminished, and the Choir will continue to provide music making of excellence with innovative and ground-breaking programmes.

The Choir is one of the finest in Bristol and the South West performing music ranging from the renaissance to the contemporary. The Choir performs in some of the finest venues in the Bristol area, including St Mary Redcliffe, St George’s Bristol and the cathedrals at Gloucester, Wells, and Clifton. The Choir has broadcast many times on radio and television and won HTV's first 'Sing Out!' competition in 1996. It has appeared on 'Sunday Morning' on ITV and BSkyB TV Arts. In October 2005, the Choir was chosen to be one of three choirs from across Europe to participate in Mariele Ventre International Competition for Choral Conductors in Bologna.

The Choir's busy schedule also includes recording: CDs include Adoremus - Music of the Russian Orthodox, recorded live in Gloucester Cathedral and Ancient and Modern, featuring Tomas Luis de Victoria's Magnificat Primi Toni and Lennox Berkeley's Mass for Five Voices.

Over the years, the Choir has made a number of tours to Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, and the Czech Republic, and most recently enjoyed a highly successful trip to Dresden and Leipzig in August 2009. A smaller group of Bristol Bach Choir members can be hired to sing for weddings, dinners, receptions or any other special occasion. Click here for details.
